Introduction:

The Central Library and information service is located in an independent block which is one of the repositories of medical knowledge and forms an integral part of the institution. The library is an amalgamation of traditional collection of books and digital library in the form of CDs, DVDs and other digital formats. With dedicated Library staff, the library is serving the medical user community with the right medical information at right time. MVJMC&RH Library recognized the importance of textbooks and reference materials in higher education since its inception and is trying to extend the best to its users. Annual budget caters to updation of latest edition of books and journals. The library also has KOHA, an integrated library management system.

Library Building:

The sprawling Central Library and information service is spread over 35,000 sq ft. on two floors and can accommodate over 850 users at a time. It is compartmentalized and classified into following sections.

  • P.G section
  • Reference section
  • Journal section for National and International journals separately
  • Stock area
  • Back volume area
  • Periodical section
  • Dissertation section
  • Audio/video/CD’s section
  • Internet Section
  • Librarian office
  • Technical section
  • Common reading room
  • Separate faculty reading room
Library Automation:

The Easylib (Electronic automation system for Library) software for automation is updated and has following basic modules.

  • Cataloguing System
  • Circulation System
  • Acquisition System
  • RFID system
Computer center:

The computer center has 50 nodes having sophisticated hardware. The center has its own high bandwidth Internet connection and e-Mail facilities catering to the needs of the faculty members and students. Library subscribes to HELINET of RGUHS which is a gateway to access full text of international medical journals.

Departmental Libraries:

Each department also maintains a library to cater to needs of faculty and students. The departmental libraries have an inventory of books and journals.

SC/ST Book Bank:

The library issues the books of SC/ST Book Bank to the SC/ST students only. This service is without any charges.
