Pharmacology is the scientific discipline that studies the mechanisms by which drugs alter biological systems in an attempt to improve health and alleviate disease. The Department of Pharmacology at MVJ Medical College and Research Hospital is actively involved in research and in teaching Medical, Nursing, and other Allied Health Professionals.

The committed team of faculty members, apart from promoting scientific temper among students, is dedicated to training and equipping medical graduates with comprehensive knowledge of the pharmacological basis of therapeutics and the skills required for rational prescribing.

Facilities Available

• Computer Assisted Laboratory with 25 computer systems having an advanced, simulation software for animal experiments.
• Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology Laboratory with a capacity of 75 students at a time with preparation room.
• Well-equipped Research Laboratory.
• State of the art Skill and Simulation Laboratory.

All these laboratories cater to the undergraduate curriculum and to conduct research projects.

A departmental museum displaying charts on history of medicine and action of drugs, models and drug samples and a well-stocked Departmental Library cum seminar room, is available for reference and self-study.

The department also provides hospital and clinical services in the form of Drug and Poison Information Centre, Antibiotic Stewardship Programme, Medication Safety and Audit. It is a recognized Adverse Drug Reaction monitoring Centre under Pharmacovigilance Program of India (PvPI). It is also a recognized Medical Device Adverse Event monitoring Centre (MvPI).
